Personal Data Protection Act
The Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP) is an agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (MOH) established on May 16, 2011 after Parliament passed the Bill on the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (APDP) Act 709.
The Department’s primary responsibility is to regulate the processing of personal data of individuals involved in commercial transactions by Data Users so that they are not misused and misused by stakeholders.
The security of consumer personal data must be protected to prevent any form of misuse of the storage or processing of personal, public and private data in Malaysia on commercial transactions is included under this APDP.
In enforcing the APDP, the JPDP has required all Personal Data Consumers to be made up of individuals or individuals except the Government to formally register for the purpose of protecting the rights of consumers and the public.
The JPDP is headed by the Director General with the assistance of a Deputy Director General. Meanwhile, there are three main divisions in the JPDP namely the Registration and Operations Division, Monitoring and Legal Division.
